The evolutionary history of eight-barbel loaches of the genus Lefua contains important phylogenetic information that will aid in resolution of the faunal formations and evolutionary histories of Japanese and East Asian freshwater fishes. Our sequencing of the mitochondrial D-loop region in a large number of samples allowed construction of the most comprehensive phylogeny of these loaches to date; we demonstrated monophyly of five Lefua species and identified populations of Lufua. sp. and Lefua… CONTINUE READING
