Rodents are important reservoir hosts for several zoonotic pathogens that cause significant morbidity and mortality in humans. Among others, leptospirosis is one of the most widespread zoonotic diseases worldwide and has the similar clinical manifestation with hantavirus infection in humans. Despite the fact that both pathogens have great epidemiological significance in Europe, no epizootiological data exist for urbanized areas so far. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the…

Hepatitis E virus in Common voles (Microtus arvalis) from an urban environment, Hungary: Discovery of a Cricetidae‐specific genotype of Orthohepevirus C
- BiologyZoonoses and public health

The phylogenetic analysis showed the closest homology with European Orthohepevirus C strains detected previously in faecal samples of birds of prey and Red fox, supporting the possibility of the dietary origin of these strains.
The prevalence of pathogenic forms of Leptospira in natural populations of small wild mammals in Serbia.
- Environmental Science, BiologyActa veterinaria Hungarica

The detection of two Leptospira genomospecies underlines the necessity for further typing efforts to understand the epidemiology of leptospiral infection in the common vole and the potential risk for human health in Spain.
Rodent-borne bacterial infections in Gwangju, Korea
- BiologybioRxiv

Absence of hantavirus in water voles and Eurasian beavers in Britain
- BiologyVeterinary Record
- 2019
All samples tested from both species were negative for hantavirus RNA and showed no significant histopathological changes suggesting that reservoir infection with hantvirus in water voles in Britain and Eurasian beavers present in Britain, Norway and Bavaria, Germany, is unlikely.

It is suggested that Leptospira species infection in wild Eurasian beavers occurs at a low level, has no sex bias and does not appear to cause significant morbidity or mortality.
