This paper presents a problem-oriented approach, designed for the numerical simulation of seismic wave propagation in models containing geological formations with complex properties such as anisotropy, attenuation, and small-scale heterogeneities. Each of the named property requires a special treatment that increases the computational complexity of an algorithm in comparison with ideally elastic isotropic media. At the same time, such formations are typically relatively small, filling about 25…

Parallel Numerical Method to Estimate the Effective Elastic Moduli of Rock Core Samples from 3D Tomographic Images
We present a new parallel numerical technique to estimate the effective elastic parameters of a rock core sample from three-dimensional Computed Tomography (CT) images. Our method is based on the
Numerical Experiments with Digital Twins of Core Samples for Estimating Effective Elastic Parameters
TLDR
The new feature of the latest Fortran extension known as CoArray Fortran (CAF) is used and it is proved that CAF and MPI approximately demonstrate the same performance, but the CAF possesses a clearer structure and is easy for coding.

Numerical study of the interface errors of finite-difference simulations of seismic waves
Numerical simulations of wave propagation produce different errors and the most well known is numerical dispersion, which is only valid for homogeneous media. However, there is a lack of error
3D Heterogeneous Staggered-grid Finite-difference Modeling of Seismic Motion with Volume Harmonic and Arithmetic Averaging of Elastic Moduli and Densities
We analyze the problem of a heterogeneous formulation of the equation of motion and propose a new 3D fourth-order staggered-grid finite-difference (FD) scheme for modeling seismic motion and
On specific features of the Lebedev scheme in simulating elastic wave propagation in anisotropic media
This paper presents the Lebedev scheme on staggered grids for the numerical simulation of wave propagation in anisotropic elastic media. Primary attention is given to the approximation of the elastic
Lebedev scheme for the numerical simulation of wave propagation in 3D anisotropic elasticity ‡
TLDR
It is shown that the dispersion condition of the Lebedev scheme is less restrictive than that of the rotated staggered grid scheme, while the stability criteria lead to approximately equal time stepping for the two approaches.
P-SV wave propagation in heterogeneous media: Velocity‐stress finite‐difference method
I present a finite-difference method for modeling P-SV wave propagation in heterogeneous media. This is an extension of the method I previously proposed for modeling SH-wave propagation by using
On the interface error analysis for finite difference wave simulation
A common way to construct a finite difference scheme is to satisfy a desired order of approximation, typically as high as possible. For linear wave propagation problem approximation together with
Finite-difference algorithm with local time-space grid refinement for simulation of waves
TLDR
It is proved that this approach to a local time-space grid refinement for a staggered-grid finite-difference simulation of waves is low-reflecting, the artificial reflections are about 10 − 4 of an incident wave.
Fracture detection by Gaussian beam imaging of seismic data and image spectrum analysis
Localization of fractured areas is of primary interest in the study of oil and gas geology in carbonate environments. Hydrocarbon reservoirs in these environments are embedded within an impenetrable
