Paradoxical potassium outward transport in hepatocytes exposed to high extracellular potassium concentration

Abstract

Isolated hepatocytes and perfused rat livers respond to high external potassium concentrations with a remarkable potassium loss which is completely inhibited by ouabain. In contrast the liver swelling induced by high K+-concentrations in perfused livers is not influenced by ouabain.
