Papuligobius uniporus, a new genus and species of freshwater goby (Perciformes: Gobiidae) from north-eastern Laos

Papuligobius, new genus, is distinguished by its particular combination of head canal system (additional terminal pores σ1 on anterior oculoscapular canal above anterior nostril) and longitudinal papillae pattern, with a single cp papilla. The type species is P. uniporus, new species, from the Nam Mat basin, north-eastern Laos. Tukagobius ocellatus Fowler, 1937, is placed in Papuligobius. Papuligobius uniporus is distinguished from P. ocellatus, i.a., in having 34-37 scales in lateral series (vs. 40-43), a plain caudal fin (vs. with several vertical rows of black spots or bars), and basal region of pectoral fin with 3 vertically arranged rounded white spots (vs. merely with a small white spot). Papuligobius shows affinities with Rhinogobius and Tridentiger.
