Because epidermal growth factor (EGF) is rapidly bound and internalized into rat pancreas, stimulates uptake of tritiated thymidine, and increases pancreatic weight, a cocarcinogenic effect on pancreatic cancer seemed likely. Pancreatic adenocarcinomas were induced in 70 female Syrian hamsters by 19 weekly s.c. injections of N-nitrosobis(2-oxopropyl)amine (BOP) (10 mg/kg).
