Packet Scheduling Algorithm for Wireless Video Streaming 1

  title={Packet Scheduling Algorithm for Wireless Video Streaming 1},
  author={S. Kang},
We propose a class of packet scheduling algorithms for video streaming over wireless channels by applying different deadline thresholds to video packets (VP) with different importance. The importance of a VP is determined by its relative position within its group of pictures (GOP) and motion-texture context. We assume wireless channels with fixed round trip time, and with a feedback channel available from receiver to sender. Based on the deadline threshold, the sender schedules video packets in… Expand

In this work we develop a simple, yet robust, application-layer adaptation technique based on scalable video codecs. The proposed technique can adapt to the varying capacity available to a connectionExpand

A Packet Selection Algorithm for Adaptive Transmission of Smoothed Video over a Wireless Channel
This paper presents a simple yet effective packet selection algorithm which determines whether to transmit a packet based on channel conditions as well as the likelihood that higher priority layers in the rest of the video will be delivered on time and introduces the concept of quality index to measure the performance of the algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed error recovery scheme outperforms the traditional single-code schemes and the single-step error recovery schemes thanks to its adaptability to both the wireless channel conditions and the actual frame loss events. Expand

An ARQ scheme called Multi-ARQ and its associated rescheduling method for transmitting video streams over wireless channels are proposed, using ARQ-scheme with higher reliability for higher sensitive portions of video data to protect video quality against burst errors. Expand
Video Coding for Streaming Media Delivery on the Internet
An overview of an architecture of today’s Internet streaming media delivery networks and various problems that such systems pose with regard to video coding are described and some of these problems can be addressed using a conventional framework of temporal motion-compensated, transform-based video compression algorithm. An FEC-based error control scheme for wireless MPEG-4 video transmission
Experimental results demonstrate that the performance of the proposed FEC-based error control scheme is much better than that of the simple equal error protection scheme, not only in PSNR but also in visual quality, in terms of the reconstructed video frames at the receiver. Expand

This work compares the performance of BCH block codes and pure ARQ when a continuous stream of bits is to be transmitted across a burst-error channel and finds that for practical values of the parameters, better performance is achieved by ARQ schemes. Expand

Compressing IP/UDP/RTP Headers for Low-Speed Serial Links
This document describes a method for compressing the headers of IP/UDP/RTP datagrams to reduce overhead on low-speed serial links. In many cases, all three headers can be compressed to 2-4 bytes.
