In order to adapt to the dominant culture and to achieve upward economic mobility, some immigrants and native ethnic groups pursue self-employment.Because much of the research on entrepreneurship as an adaptation strategy is grounded in a single mode of adaptation best described as “separatist,” it is useful to introduce different modes of adaptation, especially psychological acculturation, and to consider how these modes affect current notions of ethnic entrepreneurship.
