Three independent sets of experimental evidences are presented here that unequivocally prove the importance of stereoelectronics as one of the major forces, along with stacking, hydrogen-bonding and hydration, in dictating the self-assembly of nucleic acids: (1) experimentally obtained thermodynamics of conformational transmission in nucleosides and mononucleotides clearly show the conformational transmission across the nucleotidyl wire (i.e. from aglycone to sugar to phosphate) is responsible… Expand
