Abstract The prognostic accuracy of complete or incomplete removal of carcinoma in situ of the cervix by cone biopsy was evaluated in 88 cases. Confirmation was obtained from the hysterectomy specimens. Under favorable conditions, generous cone biopsy did not eliminate carcinoma in situ of the cervix in 100 per cent of the cases. With consideration of the multicentric origin of this lesion as well as the carcinogenic susceptibility of the cervix, it is concluded that the entire cervix must be… Expand
