In conclusion, the present study showed a high occurrence of ASB in pregnant women. It also demonstrated that if the disease was detected late in pregnancy it might lead to various maternal and neonatal complications like PET, PTL, PPROM, IUGR and LBW despite treatment of infection. All the sequelae of ASB during pregnancy could be reduced by antimicrobial treatment early in pregnancy. Hence, screening and treatment of ASB need to be incorporated as routine antenatal care for an integrated…

Prevalence of Asymptomatic Bacteriuria in Patients with Preterm Labor

TLDR
All pregnant women should be screened by urine culture to detect asymptomatic bacteriuria at their first visit to prevent overt urinary tract infections (UTI) and other complications in both mother and fetus.

Urinary tract infection during pregnancy at Al-khoms, Libya

TLDR
There was an association of gestational age, education, age, sexual activity, previous history of UTI and socio-economic conditions with bacteriuria, and Pseudomonas aeruginosae isolates were resistant to all tested antimicrobial agents except amikacin and nitrofurantoin.

Urinary Tract Infection among Pregnant Women and its Associated Risk Factors: A Cross-Sectional Study

TLDR
The clinical symptoms such as frequency of micturition, dysuria, lower abdominal pain, urine color change, painful burning sensation, incomplete bladder evacuation were most common among infected women, so early screening for pathogens and proper treatment for infected cases should be applied.

Prevalence, aetiology and antibiotic sensitivity profile of asymptomatic bacteriuria isolates from pregnant women in selected antenatal clinic from Nairobi, Kenya

TLDR
Routine ASB screening of pregnant women is recommended among the women attending antenatal clinics in Nairobi county clinics because there is a high prevalence of ASB among pregnant women included in the study.

Maternal Markers for Detecting Urinary Tract Infection among Pregnant Women in Port Said City, Egypt

TLDR
The frequency of micturition, followed by dysuria, lower abdominal pain, urine color change, painful burning sensation, incomplete bladder evacuation were the most common maternal markers for detecting UTI during pregnancy.

Prevalence and Risk Factors of Urinary Tract Infection among Pregnant Women in Ismailia City, Egypt

TLDR
UTI was prevalent among studied pregnant women and presence of history of previous UTI, family history, short pregnancy spacing, poor general and dietary health behaviors and inadequate socioeconomic conditions were significant predisposing factors.

The Outcome of Urinary Tract Infections among Diabetes Mellitus Patients in Ibb City, Yemen

TLDR
It was demonstrated that Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were more prevalent pathogens that caused UTIs in DM patients, which was highly significant than those in NC.

Use of maternal health services by remote dwelling Aboriginal women in northern Australia and their disease burden.

TLDR
Maternal health outcomes were poor despite frequent service use throughout pregnancy, birth, and the first 6 months postpartum suggesting quality of care rather than access issues.

Urinary Tract Infection: An Overview of the Infection and the Associated Risk Factors

TLDR
The current review attempts to highlight the various factors associated with UTI, prime perpetrators responsible for the infection, the emergence of growing resistance and possible remedy to overcome the infection among women during pregnancy.

Prevalence of asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnant women.

TLDR
The prevalence of asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB) in pregnant women of local population in Karachi remained statistically the same in pregnant and nonpregnant women (P value > 0.05).

TLDR
A negative test for pyuria is not a reliable indicator of the absence of asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnant women, and all pregnant women should be screened at the first antenatal visit.

TLDR
The combination of pyuria and bacteriuria in urinalysis or pyuria with more than 10 WBC in HPF or many bacteriuri, have high sensitivity, specificity, NPV and PPV for the diagnosis of asymptomatic bacteriurism and can be a good substitute for urine culture and only 7.7 of patients need urine culture.
