Abstract The addition of macrophages to cultures of PPD-stimulated lymphocytes from tuberculin-sensitive individuals results in a greater than 3-fold increase in the production of interferon over that observed in cultures of lymphocytes or macrophages alone with PPD. Polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) cannot substitute for macrophages in the augmentation of interferon production.
