Although estimates of survival and population density are available for several snake populations, most of these are for populations in northern temperate environments. Here we present the results of a 3-yr mark–recapture study for an African species, the Namaqua Dwarf Adder (Bitis schneideri). We estimated survival, recapture probability, and population density by marking 279 adders (121 males, 108 females, 50 juveniles) on two study sites along the Namaqualand coast of South Africa.
