This article describes field experiments at El Mirage Dry Lakebed California, which examined the fuel savings of close-following vehicles on a highway. The results show that the monitoring of vehicle RPM, vehicle speed, and fuel injector pulse width is an accurate determination of instantaneous over-the-road fuel consumption.
