@article{Ciugulea2008PHYLOGENYOT, title={PHYLOGENY OF THE EUGLENOID LORICATE GENERA TRACHELOMONAS AND STROMBOMONAS (EUGLENOPHYTA) INFERRED FROM NUCLEAR SSU AND LSU rDNA 1}, author={Ionel Ciugulea and Maria Alejandra Nudelman and Stacy Brosnan and Richard E. Triemer}, journal={Journal of Phycology}, year={2008}, volume={44} }
Previous studies using the nuclear SSU rDNA and partial LSU rDNA have demonstrated that the euglenoid loricate taxa form a monophyletic clade within the photosynthetic euglenoid lineage. [] Key Method In order to determine the relationships among the loricate taxa, SSU and LSU nuclear rDNA sequences were obtained for eight Strombomonas and 25 Trachelomonas strains and combined in a multigene phylogenetic analysis.

Important findings concerning the phylogeny of major euglenozoan groups have been found, i.e. the existence of a eugLenozoa crown group was confirmed by phylogenetic as well as spectral analyses and according to the eponymous autapomorphy, a helically pellicle pattern, prior taxon denominations were converted into Helicales taxon nov.
