Abstract Defibrotide, a polydeoxyribonucleotide extracted from mammalian organs (laboratory code Fraction P), displays antithrombotic activity after oral administration on different animal species. This activity is also demonstrated in a typical local thrombonecrotic hemorrhagic lesion caused by endotoxin in rabbit (Shwartzman reaction).
