Phymatotrichopsis omnivora continues to be an important plant pathogen. The diseases caused by this fungus result in economic losses reaching millions dollars in northern Mexico and southern United States of America. However, limited research has been done about this pathogen in recent years. P. omnivora is a soil-borne fungus with a host range of more than 2000 plant species, and can survive in soil for more than 10 years.
