Adult plant resistance (APR) is considered potentially more durable for controlling barley leaf rust than seedling Rph (Resistance to Puccinia hordei) genes. A major gene for adult plant resistance to barley leaf rust has been mapped to the telomere region of chromosome 5HS. PCR-based molecular markers were developed for saturation of this region based on previously mapped simple sequence repeat, restriction fragment length polymorphism and Diversity Arrays Technology markers.
