Detection of human pathogenic viruses by molecular techniques might be suitable for identifying viral pollution in environmental waters and for improving diagnosis in patients. Environmental samples were taken from bathing areas and sewage treatment plants in southwestern France. Small volume samples (50 microL) were tested.
