Bacteria encounter oxidative stress by exposure to reactive oxygen species (ROS) present in the aerobic environment and during immune responses. In Streptococcus pyogenes, Dpr has been identified as a stress protein conferring resistance to hydrogen peroxide and multiple other stresses.
