5-Hydroxy-2-aminovaleric acid (HAVA) has been suggested to be a specific marker of oxidation of apolipoprotein (apo) B-100 proline (Pro) and arginine (Arg) side-chain residues in low density lipoprotein (LDL) in vitro.
