Introduction:  Asthma is a complex heterogeneous and mutifactorial disease occurring at the interface of multiple genes that interact with various environmental stimuli insulting the immune system at different levels and different times of disease susceptibility.

Major histocompatibility complex class II polymorphic variants are associated with asthma predisposition in the Punjabi population of Lahore, Pakistan

Various genome wide association studies have manifested that Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) region on chromosome 6p21 houses many potential candidate genes for asthma.

The Genetics of Asthma

TLDR
The aim of this paper is to describe the pathophysiology, etiology, genetics, and epigenetics of asthma and the factors contributing to its development.

Association between Interleukin-23 Receptor Polymorphism and Asthma

TLDR
It is concluded that patients with GG allele for IL-23 R (rs11209026) have increased susceptibility to asthma compared with GA allel, and the present study suggests that IL- 23R (rs1884444) is not considered risk factor for asthma.

Identification Of Specific Ige In Asthmatic Patients In Iraq

TLDR
A sample of 52 patients were studied to measure IgE level by ELISA and the goal is to decrease Bronchial hyper responsiveness and initiate a program of preventive therapy with education of patients to what to avoid.

Genotyping of FOXO3a gene polymorphism rs13217795 (C > T) in asthmatic Iraqi patients

TLDR
A considerable modification in forms of rs13217795; C/T polymorphism between asthmatic and healthy individuals was seen and elevation in the risk of asmathic patient was seen in T allele of FOXO3a gene.

Expression Data Analysis to Identify Biomarkers Associated with Asthma in Children

TLDR
This study obtained gene expression data with high-throughput screening and identified biomarkers of children's asthma using bioinformatics tools and found that HAND1, PTK1, NFKB1, ZIC3, STAT6, E2F1, PELP1, USF2, and CBFB may play important roles inChildren's asthma initiation.

Anti-Asthmatic and Cardioprotective Efficacy of Curcumin-A Review

TLDR
The present review aims to encompass the studies of curcumin as anti-asthmatic and cardioprotective as well as derivatives of the drug, which show some promising results.

Expression Data Analysis to Identify Biomarkers Associated with Asthma in Children

TLDR
This study obtained gene expression data with high-throughput screening and identified biomarkers of children’s asthma using bioinformatics tools and found that HAND1, PTK1, NFKB1, ZIC3, STAT6, E2F1, PELP1, USF2, andCBFB may play important roles in children's asthma initiation.

Under-diagnosis of asthma in elderly

TLDR
There is considerable prevalence of asthma in old age too, which, if misdiagnosed, can lead to sub-optimal treatment of the asthma.

TLDR
This data indicates that preoperatively deleting the gene encoding ANP, NPPA, from chromosome 1p36 is a viable treatment option for asthma patients with a history of asthma.

Rethinking genetic models of asthma: the role of environmental modifiers.

Discovering susceptibility genes for asthma and allergy

TLDR
Despite the achievements made in asthma genetics formidable challenges remain, the development of novel, powerful tools for gene discovery, and a closer integration of genetics and biology should help to overcome these challenges.

IRAK-M is involved in the pathogenesis of early-onset persistent asthma.

TLDR
The data suggest a mechanistic link between hyperactivation of the innate immune system and chronic airway inflammation and indicate IRAK-M as a potential target for therapeutic intervention against asthma.

TLDR
Results suggest that the C-alleel is a risk factor for allergic phenotypes at low levels of exposure, whereas the T-allele is arisk factor at high levels of exposed, which seems to be explained by a genetically-determined heterogeneity for the protective effect of microbial exposure on allergic phenotype.

Identifying novel genes contributing to asthma pathogenesis

TLDR
While significant progress has been made in the identification of asthma susceptibility genes, it is clear that issues such as replication and functional characterization mean that considerably more research is required.

Recent advances in asthma genetics

TLDR
There are over 100 genes that have been reported to be associated with asthma or related phenotypes and another 22 genes which have such data are listed, which not only were replicated by independent association studies but also have functional data.

Association of the ADAM33 gene with asthma and bronchial hyperresponsiveness

TLDR
The identification and characterization of ADAM33, a putative asthma susceptibility gene identified by positional cloning in an outbred population, should provide insights into the pathogenesis and natural history of this common disease.
