This is a retrospective case review of 237 patients with displaced fractures of the acetabulum presenting over a ten-year period, with a minimum follow-up of two years, who were studied to test the hypothesis that the time to surgery was predictive of radiological and functional outcome and varied with the pattern of fracture. Patients were divided into two groups based on the fracture pattern: elementary or associated. The time to surgery was analysed as both a continuous and a categorical…
Predictors of postoperative outcome for acetabular fractures.
Analysis of Predictors of Results after Surgical Treatment of Acetabular Fractures
TLDR
The quality of reduction was the most important factor influencing the prognosis of patients with acetabular fractures, and was found to be predictive of osteoarthritis development.
Outcomes of acetabular fracture fixation with ten years' follow-up.
TLDR
The gold-standard treatment for displaced acetabular fractures remains open reduction and internal fixation performed in dedicated units by specialist surgeons as soon as possible.

Functional Outcome of Surgical Stabilisation of Acetabular Fractures
TLDR
Fracture pattern is a strong contributing factor towards post-operative Matta radiological outcome, however, achieving the perfect anatomical reduction is not of utmost important factor to predict the good functional outcome.

SURGICAL MANAGEMENT OF DISPLACED ACETABULAR FRACTURES : MID-TERM RESULTS
TLDR
Standard approaches are sufficient in treatment of complex acetabular fractures in most of the cases, and extended approaches should be avoided to minimize probable complications.
A retrospective and prospective study of functional outcome of surgical management of acetabular fractures
TLDR
The results show that internal fixation of acetabular fractures leads to a good outcome in the majority of patients, and early surgical intervention and experienced management is a prime factor in achieving good results.

Operative treatment of displaced fractures of the acetabulum. A meta-analysis.
TLDR
The most common long-term complication was osteoarthritis which occurred in approximately 20% of the patients, and other late complications, including heterotopic ossification and avascular necrosis of the femoral head, were present in less than 10%.
Acetabular fractures. Clinical outcome of surgical treatment.
TLDR
Clinical outcome was analyzed clinically and radiographically and three factors were found to be statistically significant predictors of such an outcome: patient age younger than 40 years; simple fractures based on the classification of Letournel and Judet; and absence of damage to the femoral head.
Safety and efficacy of the extended iliofemoral approach in the treatment of complex fractures of the acetabulum.
TLDR
The extended iliofemoral approach can be performed safely in selected complex acetabular fractures with an acceptable clinical outcome and rate of complications and effective prophylaxis against heterotopic ossification should be strongly considered.
Acetabular fractures: a 16-year prospective epidemiological study.
TLDR
There will be a continuing need for some orthopaedic surgeons to specialise in the management of acetabular fractures, and the reductions in the Injury Severity score and mortality may be associated with improved road and vehicle safety.

TLDR
Late follow-up of hips treated by open reduction and internal fixation supports the contention that a satisfactory outcome can be expected if the fracture reduction is perfect, and in some instances it would have been better to accept the result which might have been obtained by conservative methods.
Displaced Acetabular Fractures Managed Operatively: Indicators of Outcome
TLDR
Although stable anatomic reduction of most displaced acetabular fractures affords the optimal prognosis, especially in younger patients, a reappraisal for the role of the current therapeutic alternatives of nonoperative treatment, a limited open reduction, or an acute total hip replacement merits review.

TLDR
Findings indicate that in many patients who have a complex acetabular fracture the hip joint can be preserved and post-traumatic osteoarthrosis can be avoided if an anatomical reduction is achieved.
[Pelvic fractures: epidemiology, therapy and long-term outcome. Overview of the multicenter study of the Pelvis Study Group].
TLDR
The German Pelvic Group started a prospective multicenter study, including ten major trauma centers for collecting a high number of data in a short period of time, and showed improved radiological results after unstable pelvic ring injuries when compared to earlier studies, the clinical result still remains unsatisfactory.
