We find a rich variety of counterintuitive features in the steady states of a qubit array coupled to a dissipative source and sink at two arbitrary sites, using a master equation approach. We show there are setups where increasing the pump and loss rates establishes long-range coherence. At sufficiently strong dissipation, the source or sink effectively generates correlation between its neighboring sites, leading to a striking density-wave order for a class of "resonant" geometries. This effect…

Long-Range Coherence and Multiple Steady States in a Lossy Qubit Array.

TLDR
It is shown that a simple experimental setting of a locally pumped and lossy array of two-level quantum systems can stabilize states with strong long-range coherence, and a protocol by which one can selectively prepare these states using dissipation is demonstrated.

Nonlinear transport in the presence of a local dissipation

We characterize the particle transport, particle loss, and nonequilibrium steady states in a dissipative one-dimensional lattice connected to reservoirs at both ends. The free-fermion reservoirs are

Stabilizing volume-law entangled states of fermions and qubits using local dissipation

We analyze a general method for the dissipative preparation and stabilization of volume-law entangled states of fermionic and qubit lattice systems in 1D (and higher dimensions for fermions). Our

Quantized conductance through a dissipative atomic point contact

Dissipation at a quantum point contact for ultracold atoms is investigated in a joint theoretical and experimental study. Robust quantized conductance plateaus are featured in both the theoretical

The dissipative Bose-Hubbard model

Open many-body quantum systems have attracted renewed interest in the context of quantum information science and quantum transport with biological clusters and ultracold atomic gases. The physical

Keldysh field theory for driven open quantum systems.

TLDR
This work provides a systematic introduction to the open system Keldysh functional integral approach, which is the proper technical tool to accomplish a merger of quantum optics and many-body physics, and leverages the power of modern quantum field theory to driven open quantum systems.

A dissipatively stabilized Mott insulator of photons

TLDR
A versatile method for dissipative preparation of incompressible many-body phases through reservoir engineering is developed and used to stabilize a Mott insulator phase of photons trapped in a superconducting circuit, providing insights into thermalization processes in strongly correlated quantum matter.

Dissipative generation of pure steady states and a gambler's ruin problem

We consider an open quantum system, with dissipation applied only to a part of its degrees of freedom, evolving via a quantum Markov dynamics. We demonstrate that, in the Zeno regime of large

Controlling the dynamics of an open many-body quantum system with localized dissipation.

TLDR
The link between the dissipative dynamics and the measurement of the density distribution of the BEC allowing for a generalized definition of the Zeno effect is demonstrated.

Quantum information-geometry of dissipative quantum phase transitions.

TLDR
It is argued that the fidelity approach to quantum phase transitions to open systems whose steady state is a Gaussian fermionic state provides insights into dissipative quantum critical phenomena as well as a general and powerful strategy to explore them.

Exact solution for a diffusive nonequilibrium steady state of an open quantum chain

We calculate a nonequilibrium steady state of a quantum XX chain in the presence of dephasing and driving due to baths at chain ends. The obtained state is exact in the limit of weak driving while

Effective quantum Zeno dynamics in dissipative quantum systems

We investigate the time evolution of an open quantum system described by a Lindblad master equation with dissipation acting only on a part of the degrees of freedom ${\cal H}_0$ of the system, and
