We investigate the equilibration dynamics of string order in one-dimensional quantum systems. After initializing a spin-1 chain in the Haldane phase, the time evolution of nonlocal correlations following a sudden quench is studied by means of matrix-product-state-based algorithms. Thermalization occurs only for scales up to a horizon growing at a well defined speed, due to the finite maximal velocity at which string correlations can propagate, related to a Lieb-Robinson bound. The persistence…

Topology of One-Dimensional Quantum Systems Out of Equilibrium.
It is shown that symmetries possessed both by the initial wave function and by the Hamiltonian at all times may not be present in the time-dependent wave function, which leads to the possibility of a time-varying bulk index after quenching within noninteracting gapped topological phases.
Interaction quench and thermalization in a one-dimensional topological Kondo insulator
We study the nonequilibrium dynamics of a one-dimensional topological Kondo insulator, modelled by a $p$-wave Anderson lattice model, following a quantum quench of the on-site interaction strength.
Spin fluctuations after quantum quenches in the S=1 Haldane chain: Numerical validation of the semi-semiclassical theory
We study quantum quenches in the $S=1$ Heisenberg spin chain and show that the dynamics can be described by the recently developed semi-semiclassical method based on particles propagating along
Interaction-driven dynamical quantum phase transitions in a strongly correlated bosonic system
We study dynamical quantum phase transitions (DQPTs) in the extended Bose-Hubbard model after a sudden quench of the nearest-neighbor interaction strength. Using the time-dependent density matrix
Dynamics for the Haldane phase in the bilinear-biquadratic model
The BBM is a promising candidate to study spin-one systems and to design quantum simulators based on its underlying Hamiltonian. The variety of different phases contains amongst other valuable and
Dynamical Topological Quantum Phase Transitions in Nonintegrable Models.
It is found that the dynamical quantum phase transitions can be accompanied by enhanced two-site entanglement and the temporal behavior of the string order parameter is intimately related to the subsequent dynamical phase transitions.
Suppression of heating by long-range interactions in periodically driven spin chains
We propose a mechanism to suppress heating in periodically driven many-body quantum systems by employing sufficiently long-range interactions and experimentally relevant initial conditions. The
Time evolution of the Haldane state after a quantum quench
In the framework of the Matrix Product States representation the effect of a sudden quench of the uniaxial anisotropy on the time evolution of the Haldane state has been investigated. The existence
Hidden order in quantum many-body dynamics of driven-dissipative nonlinear photonic lattices
We study the dynamics of nonlinear photonic lattices driven by two-photon parametric processes. By means of matrix-product-state--based calculations, we show that a quantum many-body state with
A theory of thermodynamics for nanoscale quantum systems
Thermodynamics is one of the main pillars of theoretical physics, and it has a special appeal of having wide applicability to a large variety of different physical systems. However, many assumptions

Ultracold Bosonic and Fermionic gases
The rapidly developing topic of ultracold atoms has many actual and potential applications for condensed-matter science, and the contributions to this book emphasize these connections. Ultracold Bose
