Oswald Theodore Avery, Emeritus Member of the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research, died in Nashville, Tennessee, on 20 February 1955 at the age of 78. His name calls to mind a slender, affable, neatly dressed man with large brilliant eyes and a smile of welcome.
