Abstract Volume changes were produced in isolated perfused canine subcutaneous adipose tissue when hydrophilic solutes were added to the perfusate. The initial volume slopes per unit osmolality change yielded the following product: (observed reflection coefficient × filtration coefficient) for the endothelial barrier.
