The authors evaluate the use of orthoses as a primary therapeutic means in the long-term management of patients with osteoarthritis of the foot and ankle. A comparison of the amount of pain relief experienced by 64 subjects (mean age 63 years) with different treatment regimens for osteoarthritis was made to determine the role orthoses played in helping to reduce or eliminate pain.
