The progress of the studies on the orientation of galaxies in the Local Supercluster (LSC) is reviewed and a summary of recent results is given. Following a brief introduction of the LSC, we describe the results of early studies based on two-dimensional analysis, which were mostly not conclusive. We describe next the three-dimensional analysis, which is used widely today. Difficulties and systematic effects are explained and the importance of selection effects is described. Then, results based…

Morphological dependence in the spatial orientations of galaxies around the Local Supercluster

We study the spatial orientation of 5 169 galaxies that have radial velocity 3 000 to 5 000 km s−1. The ‘position angle–inclination’ method is used to find the spin vector and the projections of spin

In the 1975 Hawley and Peebles proposed the use of three statistical tests for investigations of galaxy orientations in the large structures. Nowadays, it is considered as the standard method of

Radial velocity dependence in the spatial orientations of galaxies in and around the local supercluster

We study the radial velocity dependence in the spatial orientations of 10 562 spiral galaxies that have radial velocity <5000 km s −1 . The inclination angle and intrinsic flatness of galaxy are used

Global and Local Effects of Rotation: Observational Aspects

In this paper we discussed the observational aspects of rotation in the Universe on different scales. We show dependence between the angular momentum of the structures and their size. The presented

Searching for Rotating Galaxy Clusters in SDSS and 2dFGRS

We present the results of a search for galaxy clusters that show an indication of global rotation using a spectroscopic sample of galaxies in SDSS and 2dFGRS. We have determined the member galaxies

Orientations of very faint galaxies in the Coma cluster

Context: Models of large scale structure formation predict the existence of preferential orientations for galaxies in clusters. Aims: We have searched for preferential orientations of very faint

Alignment of galaxies relative to their local environment in SDSS-DR8

We study the alignment of galaxies relative to their local environment in SDSS-DR8 and, using these data, we discuss evolution scenarios for different types of galaxies. We defined a vector field of

Analyzing the orientation anisotropy of 2MFGC galaxies

We analyze the anisotropy in the orientation of the axes of the galaxies from the 2MFGC catalog, which comprises more than 18 000 galaxies with axial ratios of no more than 0.33. We adopted the

Dark Matter: Clusters' Gravitic Field, Galaxies' Filaments, Bubbles Of Void And Top-Down Scenario

In this paper, we propose an explication for the filaments of galaxies and for the bubbles of void. In particular, it explains their size. This explanation leads to a " top-down " scenario of

Galaxy Alignments: Observations and Impact on Cosmology

Galaxy shapes are not randomly oriented, rather they are statistically aligned in a way that can depend on formation environment, history and galaxy type. Studying the alignment of galaxies can

Orientation of the field galaxies in the local supercluster

In this paper we studied the orientation of the spin vectors (SVs) for 302 field galaxies in the Local Supercluster (LSC). All galaxies in our sample are selected from the Photometric Atlas of

Orientation of Spin Vectors of Bright Field Disk Galaxies in the Local Supercluster and Its Implication

Using the database of Photometric Atlas of Northern Bright Galaxies, the spatial orientation of 220 bright isolated field disk galaxies (41 S0, 174 S, and 5 Irr) in the Local Supercluster (LSC) has

Morphological dependence in the spatial orientations of Local Supercluster galaxies

We have compiled a database of 4073 morphologically identified galaxies with radial velocity <3000 km s −1 and examined the alignments of the spin vectors of these galaxies in the Local Supercluster

Orientation of Galaxies in Clusters

A detailed analysis of the geometry of galaxies in clusters has been undertaken in both two and three dimensional space. The procedure was applied to the three Abell clusters A1644, A548 E and A548

The distribution of bright galaxies and the local supergalaxy

Orientation of the disk galaxies in the Coma cluster

Theorientationsofthespinvectorsof128diskgalax- ies (66 S0 galaxies, 62 S and Irr galaxies) in the Coma cluster have been statistically studied. With respect to the expected isotropic distribution,

Galactic orientation within the Local Supercluster

A method for investigating galactic angular momentum in the Local Supercluster (LSC) is applied to a sample of 2227 galaxies chosen from the UGC and ESO catalogues. The method takes into account both

Galaxy Alignments in the Pisces-Perseus Supercluster Revisited

A search for preferential galaxy alignments in the Pisces-Perseus Supercluster (PPS) is made using the Minnesota Automated Plate Scanner Pisces-Perseus Survey (MAPS-PP). The MAPS-PP is a catalog of

The orientation of galaxies in the Local Supercluster

Galaxies of redshifts Vr<2600 km/sec from the Rood Catalogue (1980) with coordinates, position angles (PA) and diameters subsequently taken from UGC (Nilson 1973) served as the observational basis
