The use of headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) as a sample concentration and preparation technique for the analysis of organics in air particulates has been developed and optimised. Organic compounds in atmospheric particulate matter (PM) collected on quartz filters were found to yield a maximum gas chromatographic response (peak area) on heating at 100C for 30 minutes.
