Preliminary results from the Cancer and Steroid Hormone Survey published in 1983 suggested that there is no association between oral contraceptive (OC) use and breast cancer. However, more recent studies have indicated 1) an increased risk of developing breast cancer before 25 years of age among women who use high-progestogen combination-type OCs before age 25 years, and 2) an increased risk of breast cancer before 45 years of age among women who use OCs before their 1st term birth.
