The University of California Berkeley’s (UCB) Earthquake Alert Systems (ElarmS) is a network-based earthquake early warning (EEW) algorithm that was one of the original algorithms developed for theU.S. west-coast-wide ShakeAlert EEW system. Here, we describe the latest update to the algorithm, ElarmS v.3.0 (ElarmS-3 or E3). A new teleseismic filter has been developed for E3 that analyzes the frequency content of incoming signals to better differentiate between teleseismic and local earthquakes…

The PLUM Earthquake Early Warning Algorithm: A Retrospective Case Study of West Coast, USA, Data

The PLUM (Propagation of Local Undamped Motion) earthquake early warning (EEW) algorithm differs from typical source‐based EEW algorithms as it predicts shaking directly from observed shaking without

ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning System Performance during the 2019 Ridgecrest Earthquake Sequence

During July 2019, a sequence of earthquakes, including an Mw 6.4 foreshock and an Mw 7.1 mainshock, occurred near Ridgecrest, California. ShakeAlert, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) earthquake

We examine the real-time earthquake detection and alerting behavior of the Propagation of Local Undamped Motion (PLUM) earthquake early warning (EEW) algorithm and compare PLUM’s performance with

Next-Generation EEW Empowered by NDSHA: From Concept to Implementation

In this paper, we discuss a possible combination of Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) and Neo-deterministic Seismic Hazard Assessment (NDSHA), and propose a new warning model, EEW2.0. The aim is to
