We discuss the production of ultracold molecules in their electronic ground state by photoassociation employing electronically excited states with ion-pair character and strong spin-orbit interaction. A short photoassociation laser pulse drives a nonresonant three-photon transition for alkali-metal atoms colliding in their lowest triplet state. The excited-state wave packet is transferred to the ground electronic state by a second laser pulse, driving a resonant two-photon transition. After… Expand
Efficient Formation of Ultracold Molecules with Chirped Nanosecond Pulses.
TLDR
Experiments and associated quantum simulations involving the production of ultracold (87)Rb2 molecules with nanosecond pulses of frequency-chirped light show good agreement between the data and the simulations. Expand
Femtosecond two-photon photoassociation of hot magnesium atoms: a quantum dynamical study using thermal random phase wavefunctions.
Two-photon photoassociation of hot magnesium atoms by femtosecond laser pulses, creating electronically excited magnesium dimer molecules, is studied from first principles, combining ab initioExpand

Trapped ions in a bath of ultracold atoms
In this thesis we describe an experimental setup designed for preparing an ultracold sample of 6Li atoms and overlap it with Yb+ ions that are trapped in a radiofrequency trap. Within this thesis, weExpand
Ab initio and long-range studies of the electronic transition dipole moments among the low-lying states of Rb2 and Cs2 molecules
Abstract The spin allowed electronic transition dipole moments (ETDM) of rubidium and cesium dimers are calculated among the states converging to the lowest three dissociation limits. The ETDMExpand
Rydberg Molecules for Ion-Atom Scattering in the Ultracold Regime.
TLDR
A novel experimental method to extend the investigation of ion-atom collisions from the so far studied cold, essentially classical regime to the ultracold, quantum regime, using the use of Rydberg molecules to initialize the Ultracold ion- atom scattering event. Expand
Transition moments between excited electronic states from the Hermitian formulation of the coupled cluster quadratic response function.
TLDR
As a part of the numerical evidence for the new method, calculations of the transition moments between the excited triplet states which have not yet been reported in the literature within the coupled cluster theory are reported. Expand
Potential energy curves via double electron-attachment calculations: dissociation of alkali metal dimers.
TLDR
The current work generates the potential energy curves for the ground and multiple excited states of the Li2 and Na2 molecules and calculates spectroscopic parameters of the systems studied. Expand
Theoretical study of spin–orbit and Coriolis coupling among the low-lying states of Rb2 and Cs2
Abstract The spin–orbit (SO) and angular (Coriolis) coupling matrix elements of rubidium and cesium dimers have been calculated between the states converging to the lowest three dissociation limits.Expand
