Sperm-mediated oocyte activation is a complex procedure, both in steps and duration, not yet been completely mimicked during in vitro studies, e.g., parthenogenesis or somatic cell nuclear transfer. Furthermore, parthenogenetic studies have been recognized as a suitable model for studying activation efficiency for nuclear transfer cloning.
