We analyze theoretically optimal operation of an optical key distribution (OKD) link based on fine intensity modulation of an optical signal transmitted over an attenuating channel to a direct detection receiver. With suitable digital postprocessing, the users may generate a secret key that will be unknown to an unauthorized party collecting passively a fraction of the signal that escapes detection by the legitimate recipient. The security is ensured by the presence of the shot noise that… Expand

Secrecy Analysis of FSO Systems Considering Misalignments and Eavesdropper’s Location
This paper offers a complete framework to analyze the impact of an eavesdropper’s location on the secrecy performance of terrestrial FSO systems under generalized misalignments and atmospheric turbulence conditions, incorporating all combined effects of the atmospheric turbulence, transceiver mis alignments, receiver noises, and the eavesdroppers location. Free-space optical wiretap channel and experimental secret key agreement in 7.8 km terrestrial link.
A free-space optical wiretap channel is implemented in a 7.8 km-terrestrial link and how to estimate Eve's tapping ability is studied, demonstrating high speed secret key agreement in the optical domain under a certain restricted condition of line-of-sight. Expand
Design and Security Analysis of Quantum Key Distribution Protocol Over Free-Space Optics Using Dual-Threshold Direct-Detection Receiver
A novel design and security performance of quantum key distribution (QKD) protocol over free-space optics (FSO) is proposed and Monte-Carlo simulations are performed to verify analytical results and the feasibility of the proposed QKD protocol. Expand
Secret key rates for intensity-modulated dual-threshold detection key distribution under individual beam splitting attacks.
The secret key rates for the recently proposed intensity-modulated dual-threshold key distribution under beam splitting attacks are investigated and previous assumptions on an eavesdropper that performs hard decision measurements on the channel, overestimates the secret key rate. Expand
Intensity modulation and direct detection quantum key distribution based on quantum noise
Quantum key distribution (QKD) has been studied for achieving perfectly secure cryptography based on quantum mechanics. This paper presents a novel QKD scheme that is based on an intensity-modulationExpand
Secret key distillation across a quantum wiretap channel under restricted eavesdropping
Under restricted eavesdropping, the key rates achievable can exceed the secret key distillation capacity against an unrestricted eavesdropper in the quantum wiretap channel and upper bounds are shown based on the relative entropy of entanglement. Expand
Quantum key distribution using gaussian-modulated coherent states
This work proposes and experimentally demonstrate a quantum key distribution protocol based on the transmission of gaussian-modulated coherent states and shot-noise-limited homodyne detection, which is in principle secure for any value of the line transmission, against gaussian individual attacks based on entanglement and quantum memories. Numerical Study on Secrecy Capacity and Code Length Dependence of the Performances in Optical Wiretap Channels
It is shown that, under reasonable degraded conditions on a wiretapper, information theoretically secure communications should be possible in a much wider distance range than a range limit of quantum key distribution, enabling secure optical links between geostationary Earth orbit satellites and ground stations with currently available technologies. Continuous-Variable Quantum Key Distribution with Gaussian Modulation-The Theory of Practical Implementations
The theoretical foundations of continuous-variable quantum key distribution with Gaussian modulation are reviewed and the essential relations from scratch are reconstructed in a pedagogical way to be as comprehensive and self-contained as possible in order to be well intelligible even for readers with little pre-knowledge on the subject. Information Reconciliation for Quantum Key Distribution
A low-density parity-check reconciliation protocol is described that exhibits better efficiency and limits the number of uses of the communications channel, thus reaching longer distances or higher secure key rate for a given QKD system. Expand
