Twenty-nine actinobacterial strains were isolated from marine sponge Spongia officinalis and screened for antagonistic activity against various bacterial and fungal pathogens. The active antibiotic producer MAPS15 was identified as Streptomyces sp. using 16S rRNA phylogenetic analysis.
