We study the optimal placement problem of a stock trader who wishes to clear his/her inventory by a predetermined time horizon t, by using a limit order or a market order. For a diffusive market, we characterize the optimal limit order placement policy and analyze its behavior under different market conditions. In particular, we show that, in the presence of a negative drift, there exists a critical time t0>0 such that, for any time horizon t>t0, there exists an optimal placement, which…

Optimal execution with liquidity risk in a diffusive order book market
We study the optimal order placement strategy with the presence of a liquidity cost. In this problem, a stock trader wishes to clear her large inventory by a predetermined time horizon $T$. A trader

Optimal placement in a limit order book: an analytical approach
This paper proposes and studies an optimal placement problem in a limit order book. Under a correlated random walk model with mean-reversion for the best ask/bid price, optimal placement strategies
Optimal order placement in limit order markets
This work proposes a quantitative framework for studying this order placement problem by formulating it as a convex optimization problem and proposes a stochastic algorithm that computes the optimal routing policy and study the sensitivity of the solution to various parameters.
Optimal Execution in a Limit Order Book and an Associated Microstructure Market Impact Model
We model an electronic limit order book as a multi-class queueing system under fluid dynamics, and formulate and solve a problem of limit and market order placement to optimally buy a block of shares
Optimal High Frequency Trading with Limit and Market Orders
A small agent who continuously submits limit buy/sell orders and submits market orders at discrete dates is considered, to maximize her expected utility from revenue over a short term horizon by a tradeoff between limit and market orders, while controlling her inventory position.
Optimal Liquidation in a Level-I Limit Order Book for Large Tick Stocks
We propose a framework to study the optimal liquidation strategy in a limit order book for large-tick stocks, with spread equal to one tick. All order book events (market orders, limit orders and
Optimal Placement in a Limit Order Book
This paper proposes and studies an optimal placement problem in a limit order book. Two simple models are proposed: one with price impact and one without price impact. For the first model, optimal
Optimal Execution Strategies in Limit Order Books with General Shape Functions
We consider optimal execution strategies for block market orders placed in a limit order book (LOB). We build on the resilience model proposed by Obizhaeva and Wang (2005) but allow for a general
Price Dynamics in a Markovian Limit Order Market
The diffusion limit of the price process is studied and expressed in terms of parameters describing the arrival rates of buy and sell orders and cancelations to provide some insight into the relation between order flow and price dynamics in order-driven markets.
A Stochastic Model for Order Book Dynamics
A continuous-time stochastic model that can effectively capture the short-term dynamics of a limit order book and evaluate the performance of a simple trading strategy based on the results is proposed.
A Mathematical Approach to Order Book Modeling
We present a mathematical study of the order book as a multidimensional continuous- time Markov chain where the order flow is modeled by independent Poisson processes. Our aim is to bridge the gap
