The economic potentials of producing cellulosic ethanol from biowaste resources as an alternative to corn ethanol is explored in this paper. A portfolio of eight types of biowastes, including crop residues, municipal wastes, and forest residues, is considered and a multilayer biofuel supply chain system is developed based on a systems optimization technique.
