We investigate the propagation of optical solitons interacting with linear defects in the medium. We show that solitons exhibit a wave-particle dualism versus power, i.e., depending on the relative size of soliton and defect, responsible for a soliton trajectory dependent on its waist.

Wave-particle duality of solitons and solitonic analog of the Ramsauer-Townsend effect
We show that the scaling symmetry breaking in soliton scattering reveals the hidden role of the soliton self-interaction (“binding”) energy and its dramatic impact on the wave-particle duality of
Nonlocal soliton scattering in random potentials
We experimentally investigate the transport behaviour of nonlocal spatial optical solitons when launched in and interacting with propagation-invariant random potentials. The solitons are generated in
Soliton self-routing in a finite photonic potential.

Soliton-assisted random lasing in optically-pumped liquid crystals
We demonstrate a guided-wave random laser configuration by exploiting the coexistence of optical gain and light self-localization in a reorientational nonlinear medium. A spatial soliton launched by

Using the Ehrenfest theorem, the authors derive analytical expressions for soliton trajectory, and achieve excellent agreement between theory and numerical simulations for large powers, that is, narrow solitons.
Soliton Aided Propagation and Routing of Vortex Beams in Nonlocal Media
Two-dimensional optical vortex beams can propagate stably and undergo bending in nonlocal media with the aid of a spatial soliton, the latter preventing their destabilization and breakup. By

Abstract We demonstrate both the existence of the self-induced sub-barrier transparency in soliton tunneling through classically forbidden localized potential barriers and controllable ‘shooting out’
Breather solitons in highly nonlocal media
We investigate the breathing of optical spatial solitons in highly nonlocal media. Generalizing the Ehrenfest theorem, we demonstrate that oscillations in beam width obey a fourth-order ordinary

We discuss, both theoretically and numerically, the propagation of self-confined beams in uniaxial nematic liquid crystals. Our model accounts for optical anisotropy and goes beyond the perturbative
Scaling symmetry breaking and wave-particle duality of optical and matter-wave solitons
The famous principle of wave-particle duality in quantum physics holds that matter and light exhibit the behaviors of both waves and particles, depending on the experiment being performed. Is there a

It is shown that increasing the power of the wave packet transforms its dynamics from linear tunneling through a potential barrier, to soliton tunneling, and eventually, above a well-defined threshold, to the ejection of a soliton from the potential trap.

Solitons propagating within a confining potential undergo momentum-dependent scattering and eventually escape for large excitations in the presence of a nonperturbative nonlinear response using self-confined light beams in a reorientational medium.
