We present the first optical circular and linear polarizatio n measurements of two polar candidates from ROSAT: 1RXS J161008.0+035222 and 1RXS J231603.9 052713. We also present H band near-infrared photometry of the last object. The presence of strong circular polarization confirms them as AM Her systems. 1RXS J231603.9 052713 was observed in two different brightness states. The orbital phase dependence of the flux and polarization of 1RXS J161008.0+035222 is reasonably fitted with a simple mod… Expand

Concept of SPARC4: a simultaneous polarimeter and rapid camera in 4 bands
We present a summary of the concept design report of a new astronomical instrument: SPARC4, Simultaneous Polarimeter and Rapid Camera in 4 bands. SPARC4 will provide photometry and polarimetry inExpand
Exploratory Spectroscopy of Magnetic Cataclysmic Variables Candidates and Other Variable Objects
The increasing number of synoptic surveys made by small robotic telescopes, such as the photometric Catalina Real-Time Transient Survey (CRTS), represents a unique opportunity for the discovery ofExpand
Cataclysmic Variables from SDSS VII. The Seventh Year (2006)
Coordinates, magnitudes, and spectra are presented for 39 cataclysmic variables (CVs) found in Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) spectra that were primarily obtained in 2006. Of these, 13 were CVsExpand
The space density of magnetic cataclysmic variables
We use the complete, X-ray flux-limited ROSAT Bright Survey (RBS) to measure the space density (ρ) of magnetic cataclysmic variables (mCVs). The survey provides complete optical identification of allExpand

Is FIRST J102347.6+003841 Really a Cataclysmic Binary?
The radio source FIRST J102347.6+003841 was presented as the first radio-selected cataclysmic variable star. In the discovery paper, Bond et al. (2002) show a spectrum consistent with a magnetic AMExpand
Linear polarization in AM Herculis objects
