The authors studied seizure activity with optical intrinsic signal (OIS) imaging in a rat seizure model. OIS, which measures vascular and metabolic effects associated with neuronal activity, showed significant cortical reflectance changes from penicillin-induced seizures, and correlated well with EEG epileptiform discharges.
