The efficient engulfment of apoptotic cells by professional or nonprofessional phagocytes is critical to maintain mammalian homeostasis. To identify molecules involved in the engulfment of apoptotic cells, we established a retrovirus-based expression cloning system coupled with the engulfment assay.
