In this paper, we propose a Boltzmann-type kinetic description of opinion formation on social networks, which takes into account a general connectivity distribution of the individuals. We consider opinion exchange processes inspired by the Sznajd model and related simplifications but we do not assume that individuals interact on a regular lattice. Instead, we describe the structure of the social network statistically, assuming that the number of contacts of a given individual determines the…

Opinion dynamics over complex networks: kinetic modeling and numerical methods
- Computer Science, MathematicsArXiv
- 2016
A kinetic description of the agents' distribution over the evolving network is considered which combines an opinion update based on binary interactions between agents with a dynamic creation and removal process of new connections.

It will be demonstrated how a certain form of kinetic equations can be obtained to describe such interactions at a mesoscopic level and moreover obtain macroscopic models from monokinetics solutions of those.
Discretized kinetic theory on scale-free networks

This paper equips the model discussed in [1, 2] with a network structure based on a system of n differential equations of the kinetic discretized-Boltzmann kind, and investigates numerically the dependence of the detailed and marginal equilibrium distributions on the initial conditions and on the exponent q.
A two-layer model for coevolving opinion dynamics and collective decision-making in complex social systems
- Computer ScienceChaos

Light is shed on the role of the coupling between opinion dynamics and decision-making, and of the network structure, in shaping the emergence of complex collective behavior in social systems through the establishment of analytical conditions and Monte Carlo numerical simulations.

Numerical experiments on the underlying kinetic models show a good qualitative agreement with some measured trends of hashtags on social media websites and illustrate how companies can take advantage of the network structure to obtain at best the advertisement of their products.

It is found that in some cases, the models are in remarkable agreement with the data, whereas in others the agreement is poorer, perhaps indicating the presence of additional social structure in the network that is not captured by the random graph.
