We present a greatly simplified method to determine the specific form of operator densities in terms of physical fields. Our method is based on the familiar fact that the matrix element of an operator density between physical states may be calculated by coupling the operator density to an external c-number field and evaluating the lowest order transition amplitude induced by the field. This method is applied to the model by Nambu and Jona-Lasinio treated in the pair approximation.
