We propose a formalism inspired by matrix models to compute open and closed topological string amplitudes in the B-model on toric Calabi-Yau manifolds. We find closed expressions for various open string amplitudes beyond the disk, and in particular we write down the annulus amplitude in terms of theta functions on a Riemann surface. We test these ideas on local curves and local surfaces, providing in this way generating functionals for open Gromov-Witten invariants in the spirit of mirror…

Open Topological Strings and Integrable Hierarchies: Remodeling the A-Model
We set up, purely in A-model terms, a novel formalism for the global solution of the open and closed topological A-model on toric Calabi-Yau threefolds. The starting point is to build on recent
Topological Strings on Local Curves
We review some perturbative and nonperturbative aspects of topological string theory on the Calabi–Yau manifolds X p =O(−p)⊕ O(p−2)→ℙ1. These are exactly solvable models of topological string theory
Localization with a Surface Operator, Irregular Conformal Blocks and Open Topological String
Following a recent paper by Alday and Tachikawa, we compute the instanton partition function in the presence of the surface operator by the localization formula on the moduli space. For SU(2)
Background independence and the open topological string wavefunction
The open topological string partition function in the background of a D-brane on a Calabi-Yau threefold specifies a state in the Hilbert space associated with the quantization of the underlying
Evidence for Tadpole Cancellation in the Topological String
We study the topological string on compact Calabi-Yau threefolds in the presence of orientifolds and D-branes. In examples, we find that the total topological string amplitude admits a BPS expansion
Exact eigenfunctions and the open topological string
Mirror curves to toric Calabi–Yau threefolds can be quantized and lead to trace class operators on the real line. The eigenvalues of these operators are encoded in the BPS invariants of the
Supersymmetric Gauge Theories, Intersecting Branes and Free Fermions
We show that various holomorphic quantities in supersymmetric gauge theories can be conveniently computed by configurations of D4-branes and D6-branes. These D-branes intersect along a Riemann
The Topological Open String Wavefunction
We show that, in local Calabi–Yau manifolds, the topological open string partition function transforms as a wavefunction under modular transformations. Our derivation is based on the topological
Black holes and large order quantum geometry
We study five-dimensional black holes obtained by compactifying M theory on Calabi-Yau threefolds. Recent progress in solving topological string theory on compact, one-parameter models allows us to

Summing up open string instantons and N=1 string amplitudes
We compute the instanton expansions of the holomorphic couplings in the eective action of certain N = 1 supersymmetric four-dimensional open string vacua. These include the superpotential W (), the
The Wave Function Behavior of the Open Topological String Partition Function on the Conifold
We calculate the topological string partition function to all genus on the conifold, in the presence of branes. We demonstrate that the partition functions for different brane backgrounds (smoothly
On N=1 Mirror Symmetry for Open Type II Strings
We study the open string extension of the mirror map for N=1 supersymmetric type II vacua with D-branes on non-compact Calabi-Yau manifolds. Its definition is given in terms of a system of
Topological Strings and Integrable Hierarchies
We consider the topological B-model on local Calabi-Yau geometries. We show how one can solve for the amplitudes by using -algebra symmetries which encode the symmetries of holomorphic

Topological Strings and (Almost) Modular Forms
The B-model topological string theory on a Calabi-Yau threefold X has a symmetry group Γ, generated by monodromies of the periods of X. This acts on the topological string wave function in a natural
Branes, rings and matrix models in minimal (super)string theory
We study both bosonic and supersymmetric (p,q) minimal models coupled to Liouville theory using the ground ring and the various branes of the theory. From the FZZT brane partition function, there
