This paper describes a knowledge-based system (KBS) designed to support a federated environment for simulating critical infrastructure models. A federation of simulators is essentially a “system of systems,” where each simulator represents an entity that operates independently with its own behavior and purpose. The interactions among the components of the federated system of systems exhibit critical infrastructure vulnerabilities as emergent behavior; these vulnerabilities cannot be analyzed…
Semantic Interoperability Among FederatedSimulators Of Critical Infrastructures – DIESISProject
TLDR
The EU funded project DIESIS aims at laying the foundations for a European modelling and simulation research facility based on open standards to foster and support research on all aspects of CIs, with a focus on their protection.
Exploiting Web Ontologies for Automated Critical Infrastructure Data Retrieval
TLDR
This chapter discusses an approach for matching a given critical infrastructure ontology to an ontology built on OpenStreetMap (OSM) tags that enables structured access to the associated geographical dataset.
Federated Modelling and Simulation for Critical Infrastructure Protection
TLDR
This chapter outlines applications and benefit of federated modelling, simulation and analysis (MS&A) for Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), and reviews the state of the art in federated MS&A for CIP and categorise common approaches and interoperability concepts like central and lateral coupling of simulators.
Reasoning about Vulnerabilities in Dependent Information Infrastructures: A Cyber Range Experiment
TLDR
An analytical framework for reasoning about vulnerabilities and risks in dependent critical infrastructure is developed and a series of experiments on a Cyber Range facility, simulating dependent information infrastructures are carried out, presenting results obtained.
A logical high-level framework for Critical Infrastructure resilience and risk assessment
TLDR
A logical framework for the high-level modelling of CI dependencies along with analytical tools for automated reasoning about resilience properties of CIs are presented.
Advanced services for critical infrastructures protection
TLDR
An overview of the first results of FP7 CIPRNet project is presented and CIPrNet services for critical infrastructure protection (CIP) stakeholders are demonstrated to demonstrate the role of the proposed services to support decisions in the CIP domain.

An ontology-based framework for modeling federates and supporting their reuse in multiple federations is presented and the relationships between federate simulation concepts are described in a reusable fashion.
The ISE Metamodel for Critical Infrastructures
TLDR
The implementation-service-effect (ISE) metamodel is a general framework for modeling critical infrastructures that can integrate several different perspectives and builds the basis for analyses ranging from topological evaluations of dependency structures to statistical analyses of simulation results obtained using agent-based models.

TLDR
An overview of theIRRIIS Information Model and the way it is used in the IRRIIS simulator SimCIP for the analysis of interdependent infrastructures is given.
Enabling System of Systems Analysis of Critical Infrastructure Behaviors
TLDR
This paper presents an integrated modeling and simulation framework based on a service-oriented architecture that enables system of systems analysis of critical infrastructures and contends that proper critical infrastructure analysis necessitates a system of system approach.
Simulation of heterogeneous and interdependent critical infrastructures
TLDR
The simulator, named Critical Infrastructure Simulation by Interdependent Agents (CISIA), adopts a modular and sufficiently abstract representation of the different infrastructures' components to allow consistent descriptions, starting from the incomplete and generic data acquirable from stakeholders.
