I address the question of how fluctuating asymmetry (FA)—the distribution of random deviations from bilateral symmetry—varies ontogenetically in the mammalian skeleton. This question is significant because of the light that such patterns can shed on the causes of variation in developmental stability in bone as well as other structures.
