GluR2 is one of the α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole propionic acid (AMPA) receptor subunits of the glutamate ion channel family. Excessive activity of the GluR2 AMPA receptor has been implicated in a number of neurological diseases, and therefore aptamers as inhibitors may be useful as pharmacological agents.
