The influence of noise inherent in emission sources and effects due to polarization mode coupling on random inhomogeneities in single-mode fibers on the ultimate sensitivity of fiber-optic gyros to rotation is studied. It is shown that the ultimate sensitivity of navigation fiber-optic gyros and precision fiber-optic gyros intended for detecting fundamental physical processes is limited largely by polarization effects. In directional fiber-optic gyros, conversely, radiation noise prevails.
