There are various intraspecies groups of grades and forms of Papaver somn(ferum L. species known as the opium or garden poppy, which differ both in their commercial role and in the juridical state. The grades intended for the production of raw opium (opium-bearing or high-opium poppy) have been strictly prohibited for cultivation on the territory of the Russian Federation since 1974.
